Help me figure out my GPA?

Question:i have a 2.38 so far and that doesnt include my last semester in which i had 4 A's 2 B's and 1 C

please help me calculate my overall so far GPA

Answers:
Assuming 4.0 is the cap
A=4
B=3
C=2
D=1
Add them all up, and divide by the number of classes you have = GPA (assuming a class is = to a credit)

-romasuave1's answer should be 3.42, not 2.42
-Deb S's answer is not correct due to the fact that last semesters grade can not be added and divided in the problem, it must be added and divided to the result.

Assuming that the 2.38 is for last semester, and these grades are for this semester, your over all would be 2.9
(4+4+4+4+3+3+2)\7=3.42
3.42+2.42=5.8
5.8/2=2.9+/- GPA for both semesters
this is too hard!!!!... sorry.
Dude, thats like a C- Average, the last one was like a 3.75 or somthing, better than me
Do you have powerschool, to look up your school grades in your school district on the web? That's what my kids do!
You would have to tell us all of the grades you've gotten before.

To calculate your gpa you have to add:
4.0 for every A you've ever gotten.
3.0 for every B
2.0 for every C
1.0 for every D

and once you have that total divide it by the total number of grades you have received.

If you are in college it's even more complicated because differant classes count for differant numbers of credits.
Based on the grades, your GPA is 2.42

A=4
B=3
C=2

so 4A's = 16
2B's = 6
1C = 2

overall 24/7 = 2.42 (7 is the total number of subjects graded)
it depends on how much, precisely, your As Bs and Cs are worth. in general you can figure As=4, Bs=3, Cs=2 (on a 4.0 scale). add your total # & divide by how many classes you took this semester.
If order to answer, I have to know over how many classes or credits the average of 2.38 came from?
A's = 4 B's = 3 C's 2

SO - 23 + 2.38 = 25.38

Divided by 8 ( your 7 new grades + the GPA) = 3.1725
I would be happy to do it for you but I need the grades of the other semester and the total number of classes you took total in order to calculate your GPA.
try this site it also has a calculator to figure it out.
A's are worth 4 points, B's are worth 3, and C's are worth 2.

Add them together and then divide by how many grades you got (thats how you find an average).

so you have (16+6+2)/7 = 3.43

Now add the two GPAs together and divide by two (2.38+3.43)/2 = 2.91 plus or minus 2 hundreths of a point due to rounding.

Edit: This is the way I have been doing for my classes and I have been dead on everytime.
Not every school calculates GPA the same way, but the gerenal formula works like this,
A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1

Assaign a number to each letter grade as shown above, add the numbers together and divide by the number of grades you have, so 4 A's 2b's and a c = 24, divide that by 7 (the number of grades) and you get 3.42. You can not add this to you existing GPA, so to figure out your really GPA you will need the grades from all the class you have taken. Also you school may have differnt values for an A- than for a plan A, Or use 4.5 if you get an A in an AP class, so you'll need to check with them.
A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points

last semester 4 A's = 16
4 classes @ A times 4 points

2 B's = 6
2 classes @ B = 6

1 C =2
1 class @ C =2

add 2 + 6 + 16 = 24
divide by the number of classes: 7

your GPA for last semester is 3.43
To calculate your GPA, you need to also know how many class credits you recieve for each class.

For each grade, these are the amount of points you get:
A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0

If any are advanced, add .5 to it. If any are college-level, add 1 to it.

Then add up all of these numbers and divide it by the amount of CREDITS you have that term. DON'T divide it by the amount of classes. That is incorrect!
we cannot do this with just the numbers you give us.
We would need all your grades including what gave you a 2.38 gpa to figure out your current one.
