What is the most effective way to study?

Answers:
Lots of research has gone into this, and the answer has lately actually changed! lol

You still should read and notate material before a lecture, and familiarize yourself with any new words or concepts.

You should still re-notate it as the lecturer speaks (so you know what you are likely to be tested on).

My personal favorite method of notating is with color coded markers in the text itself, different color for the lecturer, and pencil in the margins. This trashes the book for resale through the bookstores at college... But when people see how good your grades were, they will hunt you down to buy them. I keep them forever as reference material.

The new part is that reinforcement study should be done in groups. People hate looking stupid, and some part of them kicks in to protect their ego if they study in a group. They learn more, and remember it longer.
stare at your notes
When you are relaxed, or when you are very excited about learning something new. Avoid studying when you are tired. Be sure to get enough sleep, and actually study how to study - then use whatever works best for YOU.
The most effective way to study is by taking notes on the things you have to study for. Take notes when your teacher(s)gave you the date of when the test or quiz is going to be on. Don't put down EVERYTHING...only put the 'important' things down. And don't put any defintions down. Put the defintions on vocabualry cards. Once you have the notes and vocabulary cards down, study it everyday. Once you have memorized the defintions on the vocabulary cards always study at night, or in the morning. Don't do anything else when you are studying the vocabulary cards. You will be distracted and might not get it down. Study the notes too. But a better way to take notes is on a blank piece of paper leave about 4" blank by scooting to the right. Draw a line down the middle (doesn't have to be straight). After you have taken the notes, on the very left where you left it blank, write down questions, and you should number it so it will be way easier. Even after you have taken your test, you should still study it, because when you have your finals you might need it.
That's a really good way to study.
By concentrating !
Try writing down little bits of info. onto small seperate cards and stick them around your bedroom, then you can just look at them whenever you feel like it and also, every night when you're lying in bed before you go to sleep you can look at them, read through them and test yourself. As well as that, the cards will be there when you wake up first thing in the morning so you can re-check and test yoursef again... you can read them whilst getting dressed, brushing your teeth, etc.
It depends upon your learning style.

If you are a visual learner, you will benefit most from writing your important points in colored pens, adding thumbnail sketches here and there, and using symbols to help you remember key ideas. Organize the information on the page in an outline or other format.

If you are an auditory learner, tape the teacher's lecture and listen to it over and over as you review your notes. Read the textbook aloud to yourself to help you remember the key points.

Some people learn best by moving as they learn. You could study while swinging your legs, walking on a treadmill, or tossing a ball in the air. Suggestion: Don't do this in the library!

Good luck to ya!
You should know your peak hours for studying because even if you still want to study but you can't seem to absorb all the notes you are reading there is no use. You should rest for a while, watch t.v. or listen to radio, or things that can relax your mind. Neumonics is also helpful in memorization. Small notes in your mirror or anywhere in your room will help, things that you always see will unconsciously be registered in your mind.
There's no particular way which might be most effective. The only thing that matters is one's will to study. If u have a strong desire to excel in studies than nothing can deter u.I have applied this thing to myself. There were days when i had a desire to watch movies nd stuff rather than studing, I failed miserably. That was when i decided to be focussed in my approach.can u believe i am studying in a prestigous college.
Try this and see the result.Concentrate on wat ur doing , then u will feel that anything happening in the surroundings wont alter ur work.I hope this will help
