Online schooling????

Question:can everyone tell me everything they know about the free online public schooling, i am considering enrolling and i want to know some information about it first

Answers:
Tell you *everything* I know? Well that would be tough. I have all 6 of my children currently enrolled in a virtual charter school. So although technically, they are taught at home, they are under the authority of this public charter school and not the state's homeschool law. The curriculum, computer, printer and all supplies; minus minor things like paper and pencils, are supplied to us free of charge. We even get ink for their printers, and a reimpbursement for internet fees.

How the actual schooling is done varies due to grade. The younger grades operate more like a traditional homeschool setting. I, as the teacher's assistant, pull the lessons offline and facilitate the learning done, more than actually teach it. Although if the child is struggling in an area, I do sit and do an instructional time. At the elementary level, the children can be self motivated, and more or less self taught and progress on their own, under close supervision. I then would score reviews, check over work etc. and log attendance. In the middle school, the actual teaching/facilitating gradually gets handed over to the charter school's certified teacher, and by high school the teachers do all the instructing.

That is a general overview of what a virtual charter school has been in our experience. If you would like more information, please be more specific in your questions. You could also check out a few of them on line, depending on your location.
I really don't think that sitting in front of a computer screen all day is good for you. Sorry for being negative but that's my opinion.

Good Luck ;)
In response to Beccablue152,

You don't sit in front of a computer all day. You print up work, use books, take field trips. My son spent maybe 2 hours on the computer at the most.
