"inner voyage(?)" in literature?

Question:Is this the term used when a character in a book becomes a different person? Good/evil, sane/insane? I am stuck on a paper about vietnan war literature and my topic is about the transformation the soldiers went through during the war. Is 'inner voyage" the term used for that?

Thanks

Answers:
Perhaps it may...but I think it means the growth or gradual change of a character during the narrative. The voyage you speak of is a 'decent into hell' or some other psycho-analytical expression.

[ I searched several sources and could fine nothing related to this phrase as presented.]
