1)Write the following phrase using symbols. Use the variable x to represent the number. 1 less than a number?

Question:2)List the like terms in the following group of terms.
6s, –7rs2, –10r2s, –9rs2, 5rs2, –3r2
3)Evaluate.(2)(–9) + 28

Answers:
1.
One less than x is written:
x - 1.

2.
6s, –7rs^2, –10r^2s, –9rs^2, 5rs^2, –3r^2
6s stands alone. There are no other terms which are just a number multiplied by s.
There are three terms in rs^2:
-7rs^2, -9rs^2, 5rs^2.
-10r^2s stands alone. There are no other terms in r^2s.
-3r^2 stands alone. There are no other terms in r^2.

3.
2(-9) + 28
= -18 + 28
= 10.
1)x-1
2)There are no like terms
3)(2)(-9)+28=-18+28=10
1 less than a number - let x be the number so x-1 is one less

for number two, like terms are ones that have the same variables so -7rs2, -9rs2 and 5rs2 would be like since they all have rs2

2*-9=-18
then-18+28 = 10
