Advanced Science Fair topic help?

Question:Im currently a high schooler going to my Junior year. i want to do a really great project next year that is pretty difficult for my age. So im wondering if anyone have any ideas or suggestions. My field of interests is enviromental and math. Thank you

How about doing it on alien species? For example, there is a non-native aquatic plant that is taking over some lakes in NY state; they were spread by small bits on boat propellers that had been in infected lakes.
Where I live (S.CA), non-native Elephant Grass is taking over our creeks and sucking them dry. Not good, since we are in the midst of a drought.
Melaleuca (an Australian native) is taking over the Everglades and waterways in Florida.
