I teach trumpet lessons to big school and middle school students. A student of mine have recently approached me about wanting to receive his lip pierced. My first thought was "No" because a hole in the oral cavity would tolerate air leak when trying to play. The student requests the piercing on the side of his lip.
What should I tell my student? Please help!
Answers: Talk to him and explain your concern almost the piercing jeopardizing is tone. If he goes through with it he will manifestly need to learn how to play around the piercing...explain that in that may be consequences for his actions and if he is unable to play beside the piercing than he forfeits his spot in the band.
