Can you explain this quote by Aristotle?

"The ultimate purpose in studying ethics is not as it is surrounded by other inquiries, the attainment of theoretical knowledge; we are not conducting this inquiry in establish to know what virtue is, but in order to become upright, else there would be no advantage in studying it" - Aristotle
Answers:
Aristotle was saw that the reason to study ethics is to become ethical. Its not of much use to know what ethical means, unless you later apply the knowledge and act ethically.
Basically that nouns is not a study for recreation but for better living... ethics is seen as well brought-up and moral and the philosophers believed that a person's purpose was to live morally and seek the good ... Ethics is not a situation of possessing knowledge but living it and understanding it Source(s): Past Semester of Philosophy
He's maxim that studying ethics is different than studying any other subject. In other studies, we are trying to learn about that point...to know what it is. We study sharks in order to know about sharks. We study Spanish surrounded by order to speak spanish and understand spanish. We study ethics contained by order to actually become good...not simply to know what it is....otherwise...there would be no advantage in studying it.
