Is it best to do a plumbing course or try to get into a plumbing company on an apprentice?

Question:i would do either but courses cost. i dont work cos i stay at home watching my daughter (2) while my wife is studying to become nurse. i want my career to start as soon as she's finished in sept08 so im trying my upmost to get onto a companys books but feel my age (23) is putting them off, as i know they prefer school leavers (16). i know if you claim benifits or get working family tax credits etc you get corses paid for but we dont get any as none of us work. catch 22 i know but thats life lol.

Any ideas?

Answers:
If you can find a good apprenticeship, I'd go for that. As it would both teach the skills but also give a business aspect of the company employed / market knowledge that cannot be gained while sitting in a college room. As you say at 23 years of age it may be tricky to find an apprenticeship, but if you can convince a company that you do not mind the low wage for 2 years to learn, if I was the the employer I would be impressed at that kind of commitment, whatever the age.
AN APPRENTICESHIP IS THE BEST ROUTE TO TAKE AS YOU CAN LEARN THE EDUCATIONAL ALONG WITH THE PRACTICAL AS YOU GO ALONG
