Point out the best skill of a teacher to catch the attention of his students.?

Question:Being a competent teacher what is the best visual aids that a teacher might have aside from the usual educational materials provided by the school.

Answers:
"Eyes in the back of the head" i.e. "with-it-ness", knowing your students. And the ability to be flexible since there is no one "best" that works in every situation. Attention getters don't always need to be visual since you will have auditory and kinesthetic learners as well. Nevertheless, a guest speaker, a live tarantula, or a variety of any number of creative ideas may work. Sometimes, something not expected will get my attention. At other times, it may be as common as a tap of a gavel or the ringing of a bell.

Mine is spontaneity

I do the odd strange thing in class, not every day, not the same way, but the kids know I'm likely to do something weired at some stage, so they are more attentive and keen to see what it is.

Oh and I never repeat the act, even if they beg and promise to be fantastic students (they are already fantastic).

It's worked for me with every class I've ever taught, so I'll keep doing it. Besides students at just young people, and they deserve to have some fun like older people, even while learning, so why not break it up for them and make it fun, interesting, appropriate, captivating and effective.

One final thought, remember that movie "Dead Poet's Society", with Robbin Williams? Well he's the sort of teacher I wished I had at school. I don't model him, but his ideas were fascinating to me and his desire to teach more than just what's in the text should be commended. Watch the movie and it might give you some ideas too.
