I listen closely when my grandchildren talk and am continually amused by how ofter they use the word "like."

Question:They seem to use the word like right after a verb, as in, "I was like really tired." For those of you who can not talk without using " like" in just about every sentence, think about it and tell me if you usually use the word "like" right after a verb. Thanks

Answers:
yeah my dad has tried to get me not to say it...he even makes me listen to long speeches by successful leaders who manage to not say the infamous word once. (still baffles me how hey don't haha) but yes in my case, I use like after verbs (especially when exaggerating)
sometimes, I use it, thinking that I am like a really tired person

I am like really tired.

I know it is bad grammar but it is a statement of self and current slang
well my daughter continually says to me "you know what ever"
makes a much sense as "like" But give them time they will grow out of it
yes, this is a convo. I used to have with my parents regularly when I was a teenager. It's something about our generation that is embedded in almost every person i know.. (perhaps more so when they were 15 than the professional person they have become now)

It's part of the lingo. In the 70's, things were groovy.
In the 90's, if something was bad, it was good or cool.

You would "chill" or "hang out" with your friends rather than get together with them.

When my parents explained how it made me appear to other adults, I consciously changed my speaking patterns to avoid saying "I ran like a bajillion miles" or "I am like so freakin mad at him bc he like, doesnt even care".

Don't worry though, it's something they grow out of . :) Spend as much time with them as possible and try your best to share experiences and lessons with them without preaching that they're doing something wrong.. I never got to know my grandparents (died when i was three) ... But Hope i could answer your question :)
Like, wow. Good observation.
