Why are some degree contained by Medicine 5 years and others are 6 years?

Some Unis like Imperial have a 6 year medicine scope whilst King's has a 5 year degree course in Medicine. Why?
the six year course is for populace who dont have the right A levels for the 5 year course so do a foundation year after that it is the same as the 5 year course
The 6 year courses usually enjoy a foundation year, where you work on more general medicine. How the more intelligent/confident tend to progress for the 5year course, just because it means you graduate a year early.
