Question:So my mom scored a 28 on her ACT in 1980, and I just scored the same this year. My mother swears they scored the test out of 30 then, as apposed to the out of 36 now. Can anyone give me some insight into this matter?? I'd really appreciate it--thanks!
Answers:
Prior to 1989, the highest score was 35.
Your Mom's 28 is equivalent to a 29 under the newer scoring system.
To convert an old score to a new score equivalent, see: http://www.ed.gov/pubs/collegeforall/tab...
I can't find any information about when exactly they changed the scoring, but both of my parents say it was out of 33 (I think) when they took it, not 36...
