What does DA means?

Question:In my language(macedonian) da means yes,but in many american films i hear that word when sth is obvious i think.So what do americans use DA for?

D.A. is the abbreviation of Dearness Allowance to Officials. Also used as a perfectly polite expression (norvegian immigrants in America origin) which may be used in place of various vulgarisms employed to evince displeasure.

It is an analogue of such words in other languages as "oy vey" etc.,
